Did you know we can double glaze your home using your existing window frames, saving you up to 72% in heat loss?

Notable features of double glazing your home

  • Keeps you warmer in winter

Room with a thermal camera showing hot-spots

With double glazing you will notice a much warmer house during the Winter as even a standard double glazed unit performs over 52% better thermally than 4mm standard single glass

  • Reduces costly power bills

Less energy consumed means lower power bills

  • Reduces Condensation

    Condensation diagram

NZ homes are often cold and damp. With the increased insulation of double glazing condensation is significantly reduced therefore giving you a drier, healthier home with less mould and mildew.

  • Increases the value of your home

From October 2008 almost all new homes built in NZ will be required by law to be double glazed. Why not bring your home up to this standard and increase its value.

  • Reduces outside noise

Double glazing provides an excellent sound barrier inside your home against outside noises such as traffic and neighbours.
Standard double glazing reduces noise by 20%, by using hush glass the noise can be reduced by up to 50%.

  • Kinder to the environment — reduce your carbon footprint

With ‘green’ being the appropriate word in most peoples mind when buying, building or renovating their homes these days, reducing your energy consumption would have to be top of most peoples list.

  • Reduce UV damage

With New Zealand’s harsh UV climate, fading of furniture and carpets is a major problem. Standard double glazing will reduce the amount of UV light transference in your home. This can be increased by up to 86% by using tinted glass in your double glazed unit.

  • Keep your views, no need for thermal curtains

With the increased insulation of double glazing there will be no need for bulky, expensive thermal curtains.

  • Provides more security than single glass

Two panes of glass are much harder to break than one. If the outer pane is broken the shards of glass usually stay in place. By using toughened or laminated glass security is improved further still.

  • Keeps you cooler in Summer

The insulating layer of double glazing also helps keep the hot temperatures outside in the Summer. The solar heat gained through your windows will be reduced by around 13%.

  • no disruption

Because we do not remove your existing window frames there is no damage to your window surronds or paintwork.

The Double Glazed unit

Technical diagram of double glazed unit The bigger the cavity, the less heat is lost, up to an optimum of 12mm. Glass is a good insulator but it would need to be very thick as a single pane in a window to have much effect. So rather than have thick glass in your windows it is better to have two panes of glass with an air space (or cavity) between them.
A standard double glazed unit has an air cavity, to improve thermal performance the cavity could be filled with Argon gas. Argon gas is an inert gas that is denser than air so it acts as a barrier and slows down the transfer of heat from inside to out. Apart from its heat insulation properties, Argon is non-toxic, sunlight stable, non corrosive, colourless and odourless.

To further improve the units performance Low E (low emissivity) glass is often used. Low E glass is has a transparent metallic coating on one side that reflects heat back into the room rather than allowing it to escape through the window.

This combination of Argon Gas and Low E energy saving glass can achieve an improvement in thermal performance in the region of 20% over and above that of a standard double glazed unit.

All of our units are manufactured to the strict European EN1279 standard and are also BRANZ appraised meaning quality is assured and backed up with our 10 year unit warranty giving you complete piece of mind.
